CBC III - 2009

The 2009 Carolina British Classics event set a new record for participants with more than 130 British cars of all makes and models from the tri-state area, but we also had cars from Ohio and Florida!  The featured marque was Triumph and they were beautifully represented.  The Sunbeam club also was well represented and we greatly appreciate all the clubs and individuals who showed!

Friday evening, a reception wApprec Party Adjusted.jpgas held at the Hampton Inn in Columbia.  Club members and visitors got to know each other in a casual setting while enjoying a fabulous buffet supper put on by the British Car Club - Midlands Centre.

Saturday Morning, Check-in/late registration started at 8:30AM and cars continued to arrive until about 11:30AM.

After Check-In, each car had a formal photo takeWeston Lake 032209 131 9.jpgn.

It was a comfortable, sunny day.  The beautiful show grounds, with tall pines and the lake cooling the light breeze, helped make for a wonderful show.  In addition to all the great cars, there was excellent food and unusually interesting vendors who attended.  The Silent Auction was a success and the 50-50 auction split over $500 between the winner and the charities.

To our knowledge, there was only one mishap which oJag Bubbles Boo-Boos.jpgccurred on the way to the event.  Sonya Stewart's Jag "Bubbles", fresh from an engine and transmission redo, was sideswiped on the interstate and the driver, with temporary plates on his car, took off.  "Bubbles received some significant sheetmetal damage on the passenger side.  The good news is that the "hit and run" driver was caught about an hour later and Sonya had a visit from the state police at the Weston Lake show grounds.

We of the Columbia British Car Club - Midlands Centre heartily thank Todd Smith for all the incredible hard work in orchestrating this event and making it better each and every year.  We also want to thank all the volunteers who assisted Todd.  Most importantly, we thank all the car clubs and individual LBC owners who came to the show and made the entire event a success!

These photos were available for sale at a modest price and also were inserted into beautifully engraved glass frames for the Awards Winners!

Each car took its place, parked with other cars from its marque.  There were 117 cars in 2007 and more than 120 cars in 2008.

A DJ played British Music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s throughout the day and a bagpiper filled in during the breaks.

There was a wonderful silent auction of donated gifts.  We also had several food and drink booths and a variety of vendors offering everything from jewelry to British Car trinkets and clothing.

Most importantly, this Classic event is a major fund raiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International and to assist children attend Camp Kemo.
