With
SUNBEAM as the Featured Marque
The British Car Club - Midlands Centre held the 2011 Carolina British Classics-V car show at Saluda Shoals Park on May 21st. British cars from five states shared the wonderful weather and beautiful setting. Dave Headrick did an amazing job of coordinating all the planning, preparation, and all the activities on the day of the car show. Because this show was held in May for the first time, Dave had a particularly arduous task, since he had less than 5 months to prepare. However, his incredible attention to detail and ability to organize a myriad of tasks resulted in high praise from the participants. Thanks Dave!
As always, the Sunbeam clubs were well represented and we had high volume from most of the 'major' British marques. But, as can be seen in the photographs below, there were some wonderful representations by cars that you don't see very often. Total attendance was lower than expected, with approximately 89 cars registered. Nevertheless, 45 prizes were awarded to participants.
Gary & Elizabeth Brown of Covington, VA won Best-in-Show with their beautiful 1965 MGB!
The 50-50 raffle and a silent auction raised over $500 for charity.
There was a huge pavilion under the trees with ample seating space and multiple ceiling fans. There was also a wonderful wood deck under the trees next to the pavilion for those who wanted to set up their own chairs for great fellowship. Restrooms were clean and conveniently located in the show parking area, a separate parking area was available for trailers, and there were miles of bike and hiking paths, canoeing on the river, and a special park for the kids.
As always, proceeds from this annual event go to two charities.
